THE BRIEF

New concept, ten leases, one rule.

The chain was mid-rebrand: a new interior concept from their design agency, ten leases with staggered opening dates, and a hard rule from the brand team – a customer walking from the Vancouver store into the Toronto store should not be able to tell the cases apart.

Their previous supplier had built each store as a one-off: three finish shades of “the same” walnut, lighting that drifted from 2700K to 4000K, and no spare parts when a panel scratched. We were brought in to industrialize the concept – engineer it once, then repeat it ten times.

EACH STORE RECEIVED

6 x

Counter showcases – low-iron glass, walnut veneer, brass PVD trim

2 x

Wall-mounted back cases with integrated 3000K lighting

1 x

Central tower, 360° display, laminated security glass

1 x

Cash desk with lockable under-counter storage

+

Spare glass panel & finish kit, packed in the store’s own crate

Every store shipped as its own labeled kit, DDP to the door – cases, hardware and spares in the same crate.

HOW IT RAN

Pilot first. Then three batches.

Month 1

Survey & engineering

All ten sites measured; the agency’s concept book engineered into one shop-drawing library.

Month 2

Pilot store – Toronto

Full store built, installed and snagged. Golden sample and finish board signed off on site.

Month 3-4

Batch 1–3 stores

Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City. First batch checked against the golden sample, shipped in one container.

Months 4-5

Batch 2-3 stores

Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg. Two change requests logged and folded into the spec library.

Months 6-7

Batch 3-3 stores

Vancouver x2, Victoria. Final handover seven months after the first survey.

Each batch shipped in its own 40 ft container as it finished – five containers total – so early stores never waited on late ones. Every store’s delivery window was agreed at spec freeze; all ten were handed over inside their window.

REPLICATION CONTROL

What kept ten stores identical.

01

Golden Sample

The signed pilot-store sample lived in our QC lab. Every batch was signed off against it -color, gloss, grain and lighting tone.

02

Spec freeze

Drawings, finishes and packaging locked in a version-controlled library after the pilot. Change requests logged, versioned, and applied to every later store.

03

Batch reports

Each store got its own QC photo and measurement report before crating – the client approved every store before it shipped.

“The second batch looked like it came out of the same mold as the pilot. That’s the whole job – and they did it.”
